Practice of AI in Research; an Innovative Approach
Dr. Sadia Mubarak
Associate Professor Physiology
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing novel research in the medical field, offering
transformative capabilities that enhance both the speed and depth of discoveries. In areas like drug
development, AI-driven algorithms can sift through massive datasets, identify potential therapeutic
targets, and simulate molecular interactions. AI can also predict how certain drugs might perform
in clinical trials by analyzing genetic, environmental, lifestyle data, drug efficacy and safety before
human testing begins. AI's ability to integrate vast amounts of clinical data opens new frontiers in
researching rare diseases, detecting unknown patterns, and proposing innovative solutions that
would have been difficult to discover using conventional methods.
The integration of AI into medical student research is transforming how students’ approach and
execute their projects. AI aids medical students in conducting literature reviews by quickly
scanning and summarizing extensive scientific literature, helping them pinpoint essential studies
and gaps in research. AI's capacity to extract relevant insights and propose new research directions
fosters critical thinking and innovation, encouraging students to pursue unique and impactful
projects. Additionally, AI assists in experiment design and simulation, helping students predict
outcomes and refine their research methodologies. This application of AI is helping medical
students build strong scientific inquiry skills alongside their clinical knowledge.
